Meet the artist

Emily Figueras is a North Carolina based artist specializing in ceramics, stained glass, printmaking, jewelry, and more. With a love for all forms of creativity since childhood, she is primarily a self-taught artist. Throughout her childhood, she could consistently be found making “mudpies” or digging up clay out of ponds and creeks. She has carried her fascination with creating something useful or beautiful out of dirt into adult life. Though her creative origins are playful, she believes it seems like a natural progression that she should be a potter in adulthood.

Pottery has deep roots in North Carolina. Especially the face jug. The face mugs and jugs Emily creates are a nod to this rich history, and an effort to keep the love of this folk art alive. She has always had a deep appreciation and love for the natural world. Most of her work is influenced by that, and her own nostalgia of growing up in rural Eastern North Carolina. Her hope is to add a little beauty and whimsy to the objects we use everyday.

Emily was employed by the Arts Council of Wayne County for 4 years as Gallery Director where she curated exhibitions, planned fundraising events, designed art market space, and taught classes in pottery and fiber arts. Emily left her position at the council in September 2020 to pursue her lifelong dream of creating art full-time. Under the business name Fragments and Fig, she sells her artistic creations across North Carolina. You can find her work for sale at the North Carolina Museum of Art, The Big Rock Tournament Store, and The Village Craftsmen in the OBX of North Carolina.
